South Winneshiek Early Childhood Success Program Earns National NAEYC Accreditation.
Program Among First in Nation to Complete More Rigorous Accreditation Process.
Ossian, Iowa - South Winneshiek Early Childhood Success Program is one of the first early childhood programs to earn accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) - the nations leading organization of early childhood professionals.
The South Winneshiek Early Childhood Success Program is located in the South Winneshiek Elementary School. The program is offered to income-eligible families who have a child that is three or four prior to September 15. The program is funded by a grant that is renewed on an annual basis. The program can serve 18 children and operates similar to the South Winneshiek School District calendar. South Winneshiek certified teacher Wendy Huinker teaches the Early Childhood Success Program and has a full time certified teacher associate, Donna Blong.
“We’re proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards,” said Huinker and Blong. “NAEYC accreditation lets families in our communities know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experiences possible.”
To earn NAEYC Accreditation in the new system, the Success Program went through an extensive self-study process, measuring the program and its services against the ten new NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related accreditation criteria. The program received NAEYC Accreditation after an on-site visit by NAEYC assessors to ensure that the program meets each of the ten NAEYC program standards. NAEYC-accredited programs are also subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation, which lasts for five years.
South Winn Elementary Principal Barb Schwamman shared, “We have known that our Early Success Staff does a tremendous job with our students, families, and curriculum. Earning the NAEYC Accreditation is the highest honor for an early childhood program and Mrs. Huinker and Mrs. Blong are to be commended, as are the other staff at South Winneshiek who work with the Early Success Program. Enrollment for next years class can be made by contacting the school.” For more information regarding the Success Program or its NAEYC accreditation, please contact Wendy at 563-532-9365 ext. 436.
