Down In Front
It’s opening night at the charming old Harlequin theater, but the entertainment isn’t onstage — it’s all happening in the lobby! This fast-paced mystery farce, a bit reminiscent of the hysterical Noises Off!, hosts a cast of zany characters, such as a nervous playwright, his fiancé, two gossipy patrons, several panicking ushers, a thief, and a soon-to-arrive fire marshall for a “surprise” inspection. “The last time he was here,” moans theatre manager Hilda about the fire marshall, “was when we did ‘Gone with the Wind,’ and during the burning of Atlanta we set an usher on fire!” The mystery develops when it is discovered that someone is sabotaging the theater before the Fire Marshall arrives! Who would be trying to get the old theater shut down? Could it be the nasty theatre critic who has never had a kind word for the Harlequin? The leading man (who is a bit past his prime, to say the least!)? Ushers Candy or Frieda since Gary seems to be dating both of them? The list of possibilities is as long as the laughs in this hilarious farce that goes to show you that all the drama isn’t onstage. A lot of it happens Down in Front!
Performances are Friday, April 17th at 7:00 PM, Saturday, April 18th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, April 19th at 2:00 PM in the High School Auditorium. Admission is $7 for adults & students K-12.
