The January 8, 2018 work session of the South Winneshiek Community School District Board of Education was called to order at 7:46 pm by board president Wendy Mihm-Herold.
Roll Call: Don Schroeder, Jenny Johnson, Patricia Schissel, Wendy Mihm-Herold. Absent: Bob Busch
Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Johnson to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
President Mihm-Herold welcomed visitors.
Work Session Items:
- NICC partnering opportunities. An explanation about how the South Winneshiek Industrial Technology classes are housed at NICC and that the students are transported to NICC for those course lead to further discussion for opportunities to have students on the NICC campus. The board discussed how block scheduling might work to allow students to participate in classes on the NICC campus without losing a class period for traveling back and forth. Examples were shared about students who had completed enough credits to fast track into the nursing program. Discussion took place on how students could be assisted with transition directly into other programs following high school graduation, such as Health Sciences, Construction Technology and Auto Technology. Some talk took place on if there was potential to share a public relations position and what that may look like.
- Buildings, Grounds, Transportation and Technology Projects were not discussed since they had been discussed during the regular meeting.
- Other topics related to school business – no other topics were discussed.
A work session will be planned for after the February board meeting.
Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Schissel to adjourn at 8:47pm. Motion carried unanimously.
Respectfully Submitted,
Kris Smith: Board Secretary
Wendy Mihm-Herold: Board President
