Board of Education Regular Board Meeting
March 4, 2021
The South Winneshiek Community School District Board of Education held its regularly scheduled board meeting on March 4, 2021 in the boardroom in Calmar. The meeting was called to order by board president Wendy Mihm-Herold at 5:30 pm.
After the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, roll call took place: present: Craig Neuzil, Don Schroeder, Ron Hemesath, Patricia Schissel and Wendy Mihm-Herold. Absent: none
Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Hemesath to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried
Review and discussion about previous board minutes, bills, appointments, resignations, open enrollments and donations took place. Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Hemesath to approve the consent items as presented: Resignations: Jeff Krueger – Head Varsity Softball Coach. Renewal of Baseball and Softball contracts for 2020-2021 season: Alex Smith – Head Varsity Baseball Coach; Jordan Rommes – Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach; Calsey Lensing – Assistant Varsity Softball Coach. Appointments: Ken Buccheit – Head Varsity Softball Coach, Step II $4114.80; Jaden Severson – Paraprofessional $11.00. Motion carried unanimously.
Mihm-Herold welcomed visitors.
Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Schissel to open the public hearing on the FY20-21 school calendar changes. Roll Call Vote: Aye Schissel, Neuzil, Schroeder, Hemesath, Mihm-Herold. Nay – None. There were no comments received from the public.
Moved by Neuzil and seconded by Schroeder to close the public hearing on the FY20-21 school calendar changes. Roll Call Vote: Aye Schissel, Neuzil, Schroeder, Hemesath, Mihm-Herold. Nay – None.

New Business:
- Neil Schrader from Hacker, Nelson & Co gave an overview of the FY20 school audit that has been completed. Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Schroeder to approve the findings of the FY20 school audit. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Neuzil and seconded by Schroeder to approve the FY20-21 school calendar changes by moving a professional development day from Monday, March 22 to Thursday, March 18. Motion carried unanimously. This change will mean no school for students on Thursday, March 18, E-learning day on Friday, March 19 and a regular school day on March 22.
- Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Hemesath to approve the return to learn plan by removing the hybrid option for high school students beginning Monday, March 15. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Schissel and seconded by Neuzil to approve the first reading of board policy 705.1 and the board policy series of 300, 800 and 900. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Neuzil to approve a bid by See Electric to install lighting controls in the HS gym. $5,983.00. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Schissel and seconded by Hemesath to approve the purchase of a hot water heater for the EL/MS from McDonald Supply for $4905.28. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Neuzil to approve the UNI Cooperative Agreement. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Schissel to set April 12, at 5:30 pm in the Board Room Calmar as a public hearing date for the FY22 School Budget. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Neuzil and seconded by Hemesath to approve that the Board of Directors of the South Winneshiek Community School District will levy property tax for the fiscal year 2021-2022 for the regular program budget adjustment as allowed under Section 257.14, Code of Iowa. Roll Call Vote: Aye Schissel, Neuzil, Schroeder, Hemesath, Mihm-Herold. Nay – None.

Announcements: The next regular meeting will be held April 12, 2021 at 5:30 pm in the Boardroom in Calmar.
