The South Winneshiek Community School District Board of education held its regularly scheduled board meeting on March 9, 2020. The meeting was called to order by board president Wendy Mihm-Herold at 5:30 pm in the Elementary/Middle school library in Ossian.
After the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, roll call took place: Present: Corey Meyer, Patricia Schissel, Ron Hemesath and Wendy Mihm-Herold. Don Schroeder arrived at 5:34 Absent: None
Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Meyer to approve the agenda as present. Motion carried unanimously.
Review and discussion about previous board minutes, financials, bills, appointments, resignations, open enrollments and donations took place. Moved by Meyer and seconded by Hemesath to approve the consent items. Resignations: Christina Gerleman – Paraprofessional. There were no appointments. Motion carried unanimously.
Mihm-Herold welcomed visitors.
Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Meyer to open the public hearing on the 2020-2021 School Budget Guarantee. Motion carried unanimously.
Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Meyer to closed the public hearing on the 2020-2021 School Budget Guarantee. Motion carried unanimously.
Spotlight on Education was presented by Aubree Gesing and Chloe Wiltgen. They shared their musical research on “Tootsie”.
Old business: Erick Beron from DLR presented information regarding potential improvements to the home side stadium seating, press box and concession stand. No action was taken.
New business:
- Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Schissel to adopt the secondary science textbooks. Glenco Earth Science 2017 for $7177.25. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Schroeder to adopt the 2020 Winneshiek County MJ9 Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Meyer and seconded by Hemesath to approve the 2020-2021 High School Course Registration Handbook. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Meyer and seconded by Hemesath to approve the 2020-2021 School budget Guarantee. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Schissel to set the public hearing date for the 2020-2021 School Budget for Monday April 13, 2020 at 5:30 in the Calmar Board Room, Calmar Iowa. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Schroeder and seconded by Meyer to approve the 2020-2022 collective bargaining agreement between the South Winneshiek CSD Board of Education and the South Winneshiek Education Association. The agreement had some language change to the pay for ticket taking and language change capping the number of banked personal days. Base wages were increased $450 for the 2020-2021 year and $450 for the 2021-2022 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Meyer and seconded by Hemesath to approve the cooperative agreement for Pre-Service Clinical Placement with University of Northern Iowa. Motion carried unanimously.
- Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Meyer to approve the purchase of a Rheem Hot Water Heater for the high school from McDonald Supply $3055.37. Motion carried unanimously.
Administrative reports were provided by Ms. Neftzger, Mr. Halverson and Mr. Einck.
The next regular meeting will be held Monday, April 13, 2020 in the Calmar Board Room at 5:30 pm.
Moved by Hemesath and seconded by Schroeder to adjourn at 7:12 pm. Motion carried unanimously.
